The
EF's nickname was the "Black Beauty", and it was a beautifully made
camera. A semi-professional camera and the only Canon camera offered
with a metal vertical-travel focal plane Copal shutter. With
electronically operated shutter speed priority it was billed as the
ideal camera for older photographers. Of course younger people
presumably could use it in manual mode. The EF uses the same FD lenses
as offered for the F-1 and the body shares many similarities and a few
components with the F-1 but is without provision for a motor drive or
interchangeable finders.
